BANGALORE: With just a day to go for the V-Day, the Karnataka government on Friday put police on high alert to counter the threat by Sri Rama Sene to disrupt the celebrations. The Rama Sene has given a call for a Karnataka bandh on Saturday to protest the attack on its founder Pramod Muthalik allegedly by Youth Congress activists here on Thursday.
Parts of the state witnessed protests from Sene activists over blackening of the face of Muthalik at a debate organised replica hublot watches by a local TV channel. The police confirmed that the two attackers were office-bearers of the state Youth Congress.
Vandals struck in Vidyaranyapuram and Kamakshipalya on Friday. Eight two-wheelers, four in each place, and one four-wheeler in Kamakshipalya were set afire.
Elsewhere in the state, many state transport buses were stoned and three buses and a jeep were set on fire. The district Congress office in Thomas sabo charms Dharwad came under attack. Some 23 cases were registered in Belgaum, Gadag, Davanagere, Mangalore, Dharwad, Bagalkot and Gulbarga districts.
The police arrested 94 persons for arson and detained 104. Prohibitory orders have been clamped on Belgaum city and Gadag. DG&IGP Ajai Kumar Singh instructed district authorities not to permit a bandh anywhere in the state.
